Michelle Ames MHRT/C, CES, is Disability Rights Maine's Peer Support Group (PSG) Coordinator and an Advocate in the Deaf Services Civil Rights Program. Michelle teaches American Sign Language at DRM as well as Visual Gesture Communication workshops. She has been working with Deaf community in a variety of positions, providing services since 1998. Michelle is the Vice President of Deaf Women of Maine and is a proud new member of the Maine Association of the Deaf. Michelle attended Governor Baxter School for the Deaf from 1970-1983. After graduating, Michelle attended college at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Michelle now resides in Portland with her family where she enjoys spending time with her loved ones and creating art. Her children are grown into amazing young adults and she is a proud grandmother of two.
