Disability Rights Maine, a progressive non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure autonomy, inclusion, equality, and access for people with disabilities in Maine, has an opening for an employment advocate or attorney.
DRM is seeking a detail-oriented individual who is committed to enforcing and enhancing the rights of people with disabilities and who possesses strong interpersonal skills to interview people with disabilities, providers and family members in a variety of settings.
The duties include representing people with disabilities in negotiations and meetings, representing the interests of people with disabilities on various boards and commissions, working toward systemic change and presenting training and other public education efforts.
Qualifications include: a Law degree, Bachelor’s degree or other relevant life experience; the ability to master regulations and policy; strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written; and a commitment to economic and social justice. The successful candidate will be expected to execute projects with a high degree of independence, while working within DRM’s team-oriented atmosphere. This position includes regular travel throughout Maine.
