Disability Rights Maine, a progressive non-profit organization, has an opening for two full-time Paralegals/Advocates in Augusta or Falmouth, ME. DRM’s mission is to ensure autonomy, inclusion, equality, and access for people with disabilities in Maine.
This entry level, progressively responsible position is ideal for those interested in the law and civil rights. The Paralegal/Advocate role will be focused on issues of discrimination and economic equality for people with disabilities. Duties include providing direct advocacy to ensure access to employment, higher education, and training; conducting assessments to prevent and detect financial exploitation and abuse; drafting documents and correspondence, performing research. Statewide travel is required.
Qualifications include: strong commitment to economic and social justice and the rights of people with disabilities; ability to master rules, regulations, and policy; and excellent research and writing skills. The successful candidate will be expected to work with a high degree of independence, while working within DRM’s team-oriented atmosphere.
