Civil Rights Attorney/Advocate

Job Location: Lewiston

Disability Rights Maine (DRM), a progressive non-profit organization whose mission is to ensure autonomy, inclusion, equality, and access for people with disabilities in Maine, has an opening for a full time Developmental Services Advocacy (DSA) Attorney or Advocate in our Lewiston office.

The successful candidate will join DRM's DSA team of advocates and attorneys located in Caribou, Portland, Lewiston, Augusta, Rockland, and Bangor. Duties will include providing direct advocacy; responding to reported rights violations; attending regional review team meetings reviewing the use of behavior management plans; participating in Person-Centered Planning meetings; conducting outreach and training; and working toward systemic change.

Qualifications include: strong commitment to social justice and the rights of people with disabilities; ability to master rules, regulations, and policy areas; ability to develop and pursue innovative high-impact advocacy strategies; and strong communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to execute projects with a high degree of independence, while working within DRM’s team-oriented atmosphere.
