Pine Tree Camp's Dirigo Experience
Posted on June 10, 2022
Is your Deaf or hard of hearing middle schooler ready for an incredible outdoor camping adventure they will never forget?
Pine Tree Camp is proud to announce our 2022 Dirigo Experience for Deaf and hard of hearing youth ages 11-15, created in partnership with the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf. This overnight camp session is uniquely designed to help campers build confidence, develop social and leadership skills, and connect with other campers like themselves through guided outdoor experiences at Pine Tree Camp in beautiful Rome, Maine. Counselors will be Deaf and signing individuals from a range of backgrounds and disciplines to both create an environment where Deaf campers are never an "other" and offer a breadth of practical, applicable advice on post-secondary opportunities for Deaf adults. In addition to their stay at Pine Tree Camp, we will facilitate ongoing virtual and in-person touchpoints for campers to reconnect so relationships can continue to develop and peers can lean on one another.
Thanks to generous grants available through the Percival P. Baxter Foundation and Pine Tree Society's Open Door policy, we are welcoming all eligible campers tuition-free!
If you are the parent or guardian of a youth who is Deaf, apply for the Dirigo Experience today!
