Meryl C. S. Troop, CI, CT, SC:L, is the Deaf Services Director at Disability Rights Maine. She was Civil Rights Manager for 6 years at the former Maine Center on Deafness. Ms. Troop is a nationally certified sign language interpreter in practice for 30 years. Her interpreting experience encompasses theatrical, legal, medical and educational interpreting, the full gamut of life and human interaction. She is also the Medical Interpreter Trainer for Southern Maine Community College.

Previous employment includes 20 years as the Deaf Services and Language Access Manager for the state of Maine, improving access to state-funded services for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing and late deafened, or Limited English Proficient, and creating specialized social services, as well as training over 8,000 people in the use of interpreters. During that time, Ms. Troop was instrumental in bringing forward the claims of abuse against the state-run school for the deaf in Maine, and assisted in developing the process of compensation and provision of mental health services to the survivors.

Ms. Troop is an avid knitter, and tremendously proud of her two sons.
