Visual Gestural Communication Workshop

May 18 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
May 18, 2026 in Presque Isle, ME from 9am-12pm

DRM is hosting a FREE Visual-Gestural Communication workshop in Presque Isle on May 18, from 9am-12pm. Join us! Register by emailing deafservices@drme.org or by filling out the online registration form.

PLEASE NOTE that this is a new address for this workshop! Previously, we planned to hold this training in Caribou. It will now be held in Presque Isle at the Sargent Family Community Center.

Attendees are welcome to stay afterwards and take part in another free event – Less Talk More Action: Deaf and Hard of Hearing Resources in Aroostook County.

What is VGC? VGC is useful to anyone who needs an alternative technique for expressing and understanding the wants and needs of other people in their environment. VGC is a communication mode, rather than a formal language like English, ASL or French. It uses gestures, facial expressions, and body language. Many individuals who cannot communicate effectively using either a spoken language like English, or a formal signed language like ASL, will be able to communicate more effectively using natural gestures.

This training is excellent for family members, case managers, direct support professionals, and others. All are welcome. In our classes, we help you to think visually and conceptually, and to use Visual-Gestural Communication to communicate more effectively, including with people with limited formal language.
