DESCRIPTION:Join Disability Rights Maine and Maine Parent Federation for a training on the ADA!\nThis training provides a broad overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”)\, the major federal law protecting the rights of people with disabilities. The ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities in almost every area of daily life\, with the goal of ensuring that people with disabilities have equal opportunity to participate in society. The training will cover key questions such as\, Who does the ADA protect? How does the law define “disability?” What rights do people with disabilities have under the ADA\, and how can a person with a disability or an advocate protect them? \nTo ensure needed accommodations and language interpretation can be provided\, please be sure to submit your request by January 29th\, 2025. \nRegister today!

DESCRIPTION:The Brain Injury Association of Maine has given Maine Parent Federation $10\,000 dollars from their State Partnership Program Grant which is part of the Administrative for Community Living Grant. \nMaine Parent Federation plans to hold three Listening Sessions for families navigating Acquired or Traumatic Brain Injury. We invite youth and adults with lived experiences\, along with their families and caregivers\, to share insights on how we can better support them. Feedback may guide the development of training modules\, written materials\, or resources to enhance skills in legislative and policy advocacy. \nWe want to hear your ideas and invite you to the table! DESCRIPTION:Co-presented by Best Buddies\, The Art Dept.\, Double House Arts\, the Portland Museum of Art\, DRM\, and Vertical Harvest Farms \nJoin us for a film screening of the movie Patrice! The film follows a disabled couple in their 50s\, Patrice and Garry\, who want to marry but risk losing their benefits if they do. Despite the risk\, they decide to hold a commitment ceremony. \nThe event will include: \n\nLive Screen Printing by Little Chair Printing (Designs all created by artists with disabilities). Bring a tshirt\, tote bag\, or bandana to be printed on. Hope will have a few totes on hand if you don’t bring your own. This will be free\, but with encouraged/suggested donation. Donations will be split amongst design artists.\nPatrice will join for a Q&A after the show!!\nDisability Community Resource Table\nDisability Rights Maine will host a letter writing/advocacy table\, encouraging representatives to support eliminating the marriage penalty.\nDJ Gabe will provide the tunes\nMovie will be introduced by Kile and Stephanie Pelletier\n\nPurchase your ticket today! \n\nDoors open at 6:15pm\, show begins at 7:00pm. There will be ASL available throughout the event.
